Rules, regulations

This section contains the provisional rules for the sport of humor. It will be regularly updated. Stay tuned for new information.

Key distinctions of humor as a sport:

- We do not edit your performances. All responsibility lies with the athletes and their coaching staff.
- A humor championship is not a show — it is a sporting event, where the level of humor typically depends on the status and skill level of the competition and its participants.
- Competitions may be held separately for men and women, but can also be mixed. Currently, there are no restrictions.
- Competitions are held separately across different humor disciplines. The main humor disciplines (with limits on the number of participants and performance duration) in which athletes compete are listed in the “Types of Humor” section.

Language of competitions:

All games in national, regional, and city championships can be held in any language, without restrictions.
In certain cases, with approval from WHF, and provided that the national federation is functioning successfully and the competitions are well-organized, international games/championships may be held. In such cases, the status and official language of the competition will be determined by WHF.

What is the Humor Club Championship?

Club competitions include three types of humor: stand-up, sketch comedy, and group humor.
A club must be prepared to perform in five sets: two stand-up sets, two sketch comedy sets, and one group humor performance.
The game ends when one of the clubs wins three sets (volleyball-style system).
Set 1 – Stand-up
Set 2 – Sketch comedy
Set 3 – Group humor
Set 4 (if needed) – Stand-up
Set 5 (if needed) – Sketch comedy

What is the role of "Open Mics" in WHF games?

The “Open Mic” format serves as an entry point to attract new participants to the sport of humor. Stand-up is the primary discipline through which a beginner can start their sports career.
Open mics may be held for warm-up purposes (training) or to determine the champion in the “stand-up” discipline.

Why are there so few rules?

It’s important to us that your transition is smooth and familiar, especially if you’re coming from traditional comedy, stand-up, improvisation, or another genre.
Innovation and changes will come with time.
